teliospores and paraphyses

gall: uredinia amphigenous, also on the leaf sheaths, in long rows, golden brown; spores elliptic, spinulose, with c. 4 equatorial germination pores. Telia blackish brown, mainly on the leaf sheath, naked from the start. Teliospores two-celled, not constricted, apically somewhat thickened but without a papilla, pedicel at most as long as the spore itself. Both uredinia and telia without paraphyses.

synoniemen: Puccinia graminis subsp. graminicola Urban, 1967; Puccinia anthoxanthi Fuckel, 1874; P. heimleriana Bubák, 1907.

synonyms: Puccinia graminis subsp. graminicola Urban, 1967; Puccinia anthoxanthi Fuckel, 1874; P. heimleriana Bubák, 1907.

P. favageri Mayor, 1957, deacribed from Cynosurus and mainy charactised by the pedicels of the uredinia beingrather persistent, probably also is conpecific with graminis.

notes Important for causing the black rust of grasses. For this reason in North America the introduced barberry has been eradicated forcefully (Peterson, 2014a).
