gal De stengels binnen de bladscheden, soms ook de bladscheden zelf, overtrokken met een zwartbruine laag brandsporen. De sporen zijn dikwandig, glad, 4-7 x 3-6 µm. De aangetaste planten zijn misvormd en steriel.
