Agromyza reptans Fallén, 1823

mine

Full depth (unusual for an agromyzid) corridor that mostly starts near the leaf margin, and never begins with a series in close, “intestine-like” curves. Further on the corridor strongly widens, and usually remains close to the leaf margin. Often several larvae in a mine. Frass in lumps or short rods, never in long threads.

hostplants

Urticaceae, oligophagous

Cannabis sativa; Parietaria; Urtica dioica.

Records of Cannabis are few, and of Parietaria en less. Moreover the confusion with A. pseudoreptans interferes. An observation, reproted by Hering (1957a) from Humulus japonicus stems from a botanic garden and may be a case of xenophagy.

BENELUX

BE observed (De Bruyn & von Tschirnhaus, 1991a).

NE obseerved (Ellis: Diemen, Ede, Rhenen).

LUX not recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2007a).

distribution within Europe

From Scandinavia to France and Italy, and from Ireland to the Baltic States and Hungary (Fauna Europaea, 2007).

larve

synonyms

Agromyza haplacme Steyskal, 1972.

notes

De Meijere mentioned this species already in his first checklist of Durch agromyzids (1924a), but this cannot be taken literally after Nowakowski (1964a) discovered that reptans had been confused with the much more common A. pseudoreptans. The inclusion of reptans in the checklist of Dutch Diptera by Beuk (2002a) therefore was premature. Only in 2006 a first certain reptans was found in the Netherlands, where the species is evidently quite rare.
