Contarinia lonicerearum (Löw, 1877)
on Lonicera, Viburnum
Lonicera xylosteum, Belgium, prov. Luxemburg, Torgny © Jean-Yves Baugnée
Larvae in the closed and somewhat enlarged flower buds. The larvae are gregarious, off-yellow; they can jump.
Adoxaceae, Caprifoliaceae, narrowly polyphagous
See C. sambuci.
During some period this species was understood as a synonym of C. sambuci; it was reinstated by Skuhravá in 2009. Also because of this confusion, it is not clear whether lonicerearum does occur on Viburnum as well.
The description of the gall by Roskam & Carbonelle does not relate to lonicerearum (cf Skuravá 2009a).
