Large, full depth blotch, narrow at first, but often occupying a large part of a leaf in the end. At the start of the mine a conspicuous, upper-surface (always?) oviposition scar. Frass copious, black or brown, almost filling the entire mine; only along the sides a transparant zone remains. Pupation outside the mine.

Larvae in April (Hering, 1957a).


Not known from the Benelux countries (Fauna Europaea, 2009).

Mediterranean Region, as far east as Crete (Taeger, Blank & Liston, 2006a).

Preference for leaves in full sunlight (Buhr, 1941b).
