Alnus glutinosa, Susteren

Robinia pseudoacacia, Vorden

The larva starts making a corridor of a few mm, followed, and mostly overrun, by a circular blotch of 4-5 mm diameter. Often several mines are found in one leaf. Soon they make an excision of almost the same size as the blotch. Sandwiched in this excision they drop to the ground. Their case is enlarged or changed when needed. The feed on dead leaf litter, but have also been observed feeding on living leaves (Beavan & Heckford, 2015a).

polyphagous on woody plants

Alnus glutinosa, incana; Betula pendula, pubescens; Corylus avellana.

Several European sources add a number of other hostplants: Acer monspessulanus; Carpinus betulus; Cornus sanguinea; Malus sylvestris; Ostrya carpinifolia; Prunus mahaleb; Pyrus communis; Sorbus. Recently found by Rob Edmunds on Tilia cordata and by me on Robinia pseudoacacia.

Mining larvae are found in May and June (Heath & Pelham-Clinton, 1983a).

BE recorded (Phegea, 2008).

NE recorded (, 2008).

LUX recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2008).

distribution within Europe

Almost entire Europe (Fauna Europaea, 2008).

Described by Patočka & Turčáni (2005a).

Incurvaria zinckenii (Zeller, 1839).

In the Netherlands an uncommon species, and rather rare particularly in the western part (, 2008).

In the end of May 2008 mines were found in the eastern part of the country on Robinia, a novel hostplant. Most larvae already had made their excision, which suggests that they had succesfully developend on this hostplant.
