inconspicuous fusiform swelling of the stem, recognisable because the frass is ejected as a light coloured lump. Inside a pale yellow caterpillar with a brown head. Pupation in the stem in a flimsy cocoon, close to an already prepared exit opening. The part of the plant above the gall often ultimately dies off.
