underside of the leaves with a greyish purple fungal down consisting of vertical conidiophores that apically several times are dichotomously branching, each branch ending upon an elliptic conidium.

The study by Choi, Denchev & Shin has demonstrated that the Peronospora of Ch. hybridum forms a monophyletic group. Klenke & Scholler bring under this name together the Peronospora’s of a number of different Chenopodium species, and even of Dysphania botrys.
