Until the type material was studied by Spencer (1971a), there was much confusion around the name L. pusio<\/em>. Hendel (1920) believed it to be a synomym of L. congesta<\/em><\/a>; this explains why de Meijere (1924a) listed L. pusio<\/em> from the Netherlands with Pisum<\/em> as a hostplant, and recorded pusio<\/em> as a variety of L. congesta<\/em> in his checklist of 1939. Later Hendel (1931-1936) incorrectly connected pusio<\/em> with L. tragopogonis<\/em><\/a>, which still confused Hering (1954a, 1957a).<\/p>\n

Hering (1957a) discriminates between L. graminivora<\/a><\/em> and pusio<\/em> because the first one would mine from the base of the leaf towards the tip, while pusio<\/em> would work top-down. This has been refuted by Griffiths (1962a): both directions are equally common in pusio<\/em>.<\/p>\n
