Egg well visible, on the upper surface (contary to Metallus pumilus<\/a><\/em>). The mine is a large, transparent, upper-surface blotch, yellowish green at first, brownish later. Silk is deposited in the mine, but the quantity is too little to influence its colour; also the mine does not contract, like in C. marginea<\/a><\/em>. All frass is ejected through a small opening in the underside of the mine. Pupation takes place after hibernation, within the mine; pupa not in a cocoon.<\/p>\n

John Langmaid (UK) has reared a number of adults from mines that had been positively identified as heinemanni<\/em>; however, all specimens turned out to be C. marginea<\/em>. At the other hand, DNA-analysis by Camiel Doorenweerd demonstrated that the larva in this \u201cunmistakable\u201d marginea<\/em> mine actually was a heinemanni<\/em>. Identification of the mines of this species evidently is tricky.<\/p>\n
