1b mine > 1 cm, upper-surface; larva a maggot, lives in the mine untill pupation => 3

2a mine more or less a corridor, often several per leaf; mines with little frass; larva pale (whitish, greenish), head pale brown: Epermenia chaerophyllella

2b mine blotchy, contains more frass; larva green, head black: Agonopterix purpurea

3a primary blotch mine: Euleia heraclei

3b corridor mine, rarely a secondary blotch: Phytomyza chaerophylli
