2a a number of Elachistidae occurs on Melica. The mines are not very diagnostic, and the larvae of many species are not well known; no key is possble: Elachista adscitella, albidella, apicipunctella, atricomella, cinereopunctella, compsa, gangabella, luticomella, obliquella, subalbidella

3a larva: the black warts at the outside of the rear spiracula are small, without a “root”: Cerodontha incisa

3b these warts large, with a deep “root” => 4

4a mainly at low altitudes: Cerodontha pygmaea

4b both at low and high altitudes: Cerodontha melicae

Not included in the key: Chromatomyia norwegica (mine not described); Ochsenheimeria urella (mine not described).
