the mites are vagrants between the bulb scales and on the young leaves. At high densities strong malformations and discolouration may occur.

important pest. The damage strongly suggests a virus infestation, but it is not clear whether indeed virus, or the mites themselves, are responsible for the effects.
References to grasses may refer to the closely related Aceria tosichella.
