Squamapion vicinum (Kirby, 1808)
on Mentha
gall
globular gall, usually suffused with red, in the upper part of the stem. In the gall a weevil larva or its pupa.
host plants
Lamiaceae, oligophagous
Mentha aquatica, arvensis, longifolia, pulegium, suaveolens; ? Nepeta cataria.
The reference to Clinopodium acinos, vulgare by Buhr and others is not confirmed by Rheinheimer & Hassler. A reference to Lotus corniculatus by Tomasi (2012a) must be a mistake. Giusto estimates any host except Mentha improbable.
synonyms
Apion. Thymapion, vicinum.
