Toševski ao distinguish within this species three subspecies: next to M. l. laeviceps, M. l. meridionalis Toševski & Jović 2013 and M. l. corifoliae Toševski & Jović 2013. The first two subspecies live exclusively on L. genistifola, the third only on corifolia.
