Chonostropheus tristis (Fabricius, 1794)
on Acer
parasite
Thr adult beetles feed on the young leaves in spring by superficially shaving stripes of the surface. The female makes a number of leaf rolls in the smaller, low leaves. A roll starts with a semi-circular cut around the centre of the leaf. The distal part of the leaf withers and the female folds it into a conical bundle that remains attached to the undamaged basal part of the leaf. One to four eggs in the roll develop into full fed larvae, that drop to the ground and pupate.
