A long, slender, upper-surface corridor, suddenly widening into a large full-depth primary blotch without apparent feeding lines. Frass in the corridor in clear thread fragments, alternating alonf the sides. Pupation outside the mine.
hostplants
Lamiaceae, oligophagous
Ajuga reptans; Ajuga; Ballota nigra; Chaiturus marrubiastrum; Galeopsis tetrahit; Glechoma hederacea, hirsuta; Lallemantia; Lamium album, galeobdolon, maculatum, orvala, purpureum; Leonurus cardiaca; Marrubium vulgare; Melittis melissophyllum; Mentha; Scutellaria columnae; Stachys alpina, menthifolia, officinalis, palustris, sylvatica.
phenology
Larvae in May-July and August-October (Hering, 1957a).
BENELUX
BE recorded (De Bruyn & von Tschirnhaus, 1991a).
NE De Meijere’s (1925a) description of the larvae doesn’t mention the origin of the material; probably it came from abroad, because he did not include the species in his checklist of Diptera of the Netherlands of 1939. Found at several localities (Ellis).
LUX recorded (Ellis, 2002: Kautenbach, Clervaux).
distribution within Europe
From Belgium to Poland, Moldavia and Roumenia; possibly also in the UK (Fauna Europaea, 2007).
larva
Described by Dempewolf (2001a) de Meijere (1925a). Rear spiraculum with three papillae; the posterior one not conspicuously enlarged or curved; this separates both A. lamii and morionella from A. labiatarum, by far the commonest Amauromyza on Lamiacae.
synonyms
Dizygomyza, Phytobia lamii.
