Plant Parasites of Europe

leafminers, galls and fungi

Cerodontha bimaculata

Cerodontha bimaculata (Meigen, 1830)

Long, rather narrow corridor, upper-surface or interparenchymatous. The mine changes direction one or two times. Often the corridor ends in the leaf sheath. Frass in one or two large lumps. Puparium in the lower part of the mine. Hibernation in the pupal state.

host plants

Juncaceae, monophagous

Luzula campestris, multiflora, pilosa, sylvatica.

Larvae in July-October, rarely November (Nowakowski, 1973a).

BE recorded (De Bruyn & von Tschirnhaus, 1991a).

NE recorded (de Meijere, 1924a, 1939a).

LUX not recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2007).

distribution within Europe

From Scandinavia to the Iberian Peninsula and Italy, and from the UK to the Baltic States and Roumania (Fauna Europaea, 2007).

Described by de Meijere (1925a) and Nowakowski (1973a). Rear spiraculum with three strongly elongated papillae that stand out at a right angle, not unlike a hen’s toes.

Yellowish white tot yellow-brown before the winter, yellow- to red-brown after. It is depicted by Hering (1924b) en Nowakowski (1973a).

Dizygomyza, Phytobia bimaculata; Agromyza basilaris Meigen, 1838; Agromyza laterella Zetterstedt, 1838; Phyllomyza flavocincta Strobl, 1880.

Records in literature from Luzula sylvatica probably refer to Cerodontha silvatica (Groschke), and records from Juncus effusus probably refer to Cerodontha luctuosa (Meigen).

Member of the subgenus Dizygomyza (Nowakowski, 1973a).
