another specimen
mine
Long, upper-surface , gradully widening, corridor, in the end often forming a secondary blotch. The corridor regularly crosses itself. Frass in irregular grains or short strings. Pupation outside the mine; exit slit in the lower epidermis.
hostplants
Rubiaceae oligophagous
Cruciata laevipes; Galium aparine, aristatum, boreale, intermedium, megalospermum, mollugo, odoratum, rotundifolium, rubioides, sylvaticum, verum; Rubia pergrina, tinctorum; Sherardia arvensis.
phenology
Larvae in June – July and September – October (Hering, 1957a).
BENELUX
BE recorded (Scheirs, De Bruyn & Verdyck, 1993a).
NE not recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2007). Kabos (1971a) does mention Dizgygomyza morio in a list of agromyzid hostplants in the Netherlands, and does not list the species among the ones to be expected here; this could be read as an indication that he has seen the species in the Netherlands. However, he does no refer to morio in the discussion of the separate species.
LUX not recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2007).
distribution within Europe
From Scandinavia to the Pyrenees, and from the UK to Roumania (Fauna Europaea, 2007); Bulgaria (Buhr, 1941b)..
larva
Described by de Meijere (1925a) and Dempewolf (2001a); rear spiraculum with 13-15 small papillae arranged in an ellips.
The few living larvae I have seen of G. galiivora all were bright yellow, contrary to the whitish larvae of morio; if this is a reliable differentiating character remains to be seen.
synonyms
Liriomyza, Dizygomyza, Praspedomyza, Phytobia morio.
