Narrow brownish corridor, either upper- or lower-surface. Frass in strings or pearl chains. Pupation outside the mine. In small leaves the mine can be full-depth and occupy the entire leaf (Buhr, 1932a). At least in Achillea millefolium mines are generally found in the top half of the leaf.

Achillea distans, millefolium, ptarmica, seidlii; Anthemis arvensis; Glebionis coronaria.
phenology
Larvae in August Hering (1957a).

NE recorded (de Meijere, 1939a).
LUX recorded (Ellis: Kautenbach).

synonyms
Liriomyza aesalon Hering, 1936; Liriomyza chrysanthemi Hering, 1956; Liriomyza millefolii Hering, 1927 [Spencer, 1971a, 1976a], L. pilosa Spencer, 1969. L. ptarmicae has long been confused with L. pumila, that in his turn is considered now a synonym of L. strigata.
notes
In 2004 I reported in this site Phytomyza corvimontana as a new spcies for the Dutch fauna, on the basis of two samples of vacated mines from the province of Overijssel. However, in 2007 I collected mine material on A. ptarmica in Amstelveen that by its mine agreed closely with corvimontana (in particular in the fine-grained texture of the frass, see the ©), but which was inhabited by an obvious Liriomyza larva. For the moment I assume therefore that the Dutch “corvimontana” provisionally can best be placed along with L. ptarmicae.
