often the puparium protrudes out of the mine

mine

Upper surface corridor from start to end. The frass liquifies partly, forming a broad dark-brown central band. Pupation mostly outside the mine, but the puparium may often be found within. In that case often an untidy exit slit has been formed; the front spiracula do not penetrate the epidermis.

host plants

Cornaceae, monophagous

Cornus alba, mas, sanguinea, sericea.

Van Frankenhuyzen Houtman & Kabos (1982a) mention, next to Cornus, also Lonicera as a host plant; this certainly is incorrect.

phenology

Mines found from June to October; not rare, but almost always in low numbers.

BENELUX

BE recorded (De Bruyn & von Tschirnhaus, 1991a).
NE recorded (de Meijere, 1939a).
LUX recorded (Ellis: Kautenbach).

distribution within Europe

From Sweden to the Pyrenees, Alps, and Roumania, and from the UK to Lithuania and Poland (Fauna Europaea, 2008); also Slovenia (Maček, 1999a).

larva

Described by de Meijere (1926a).
