Nematocera
Midges
Nematocera adults are characterised by having pearl-string like, generally fairly long, antennae; the animals have a characteristic slender posture, with an elongated abdomen and long feet. The larvae as a rule have well recognisable head capsule and biting mouthparts, but the important family Cecidomyiidae forms an exception: neither head nor mouthparts are recognisable here.
