Bivoltine. Pupation and hibernation in the soil.

Diplosis steini. Gagné & Jaschhof (2014a) consider Contarinia silenei Tavares, 1916 a valid species, but Skuhravá, Skuhravý, Blasco-Zumeta & Pujade-Villar (2006a) take it as a synonym of steini.
