The culm has, not far above a node, one or more elongated-oval shallow depresssions, each surrounded by a low rim, containing an orange yellow larva. Because the culm is surrounded by a leaf sheath the gall is difficult to find.

Apera spica-venti; Avenella flexuosa; Calamagrostis canescens, epigeios; Dactylis glomerata; Deschampsia cespitosa; Elytrigia repens; Phalaroides arundinacea; Schedonorus giganteus; Trisetum flavescens.
Mainly on Calamagrostis, according to Buhr in that case exclusively on C epigeios.
