conspicuous, up to several cm long and to 2 cm thick, very hard, multilocular swellings of the stems (smaller in the leaf axes and petioles). Inner wall of the gall chambers lines with a white mycelium. Larvae numerous, bright orange; the hibernate in the gall and pupate in spring.
