this section through two galls shows the beginning of the channel between the gall chamber and the opening in the wall of the gall.
gall
Thick-walled, hard unilocular swelling of the midrib or a thick side vein; generally several together, fused into a knobby complex. Each gall chamber is connected to the outside world by a small opening, mostly in the underside. Larva orange-red; a single generation per year; hibernation in the soil.
