tips of the shoots, also sometimes lateral buds, are transformed into 1.5 cm long, strongly hairy, bunches of disfigured leaves. In the folds whitish larvae that cannot jump. Pupation in the gall.

the galls resemble those of Contarinia picridis, and sometimes larvae of both species co-occur in the same gall.
