Within A.malvae several subspecies are recognised, essentially on the base of the host plants. For Europe these are:
A. malvae malvae (= A. malvae geranii Kaltenbach, 1862 = A. pelargonii geranii Kaltenbach, 1862) on Geraniaceae and Malvaceae;
A. malvae agrimoniae on Agrimonia;
A. malvae poterii on Sanguisorba;
A. malvae potha on Alchemilla, perhaps also Acaeana and Geum rivale;
A. malvae rogersi on Fragaria.
