Apterae ± 2 mm, shiny pale green with a slightly brownish tinge. Body with short, truncate setae. On flower stems, petioles and young stems.

From Switzerland and Sweden the subspecies Ch. alpestre airolense Hille Ris Lambers, 1953 has been described, living on Potentilla megalantha (a garden ornamental), and P. pusilla.
