Apterae 1-2 mm, very shiny, green mottled with red or yellowish with brown markings, to brownish black. In small colonies at bases of various grasses just below soil level, or under stones, usually in shady, damp situations. The aphids let themselves fall when disturbed, are therefore difficult to find.
