Geoica setulosa (Passerini, 1860)

hairy-tailed pistachio – grass-root aphid

on grasses

parasite

At the roots. Pérez Hidalgo, Espadaler & Nieto Nafría illustrate the differences to G. utricularia.

host plants

Poaceae, oligophagous

Agrostis; Alopecurus; Briza; Corynephorus; Festuca; Holcus; Hordeum vulgare; Oryza sativa; Setaria; Triticum aestivum.

notes

In Iran the species has a primary generation on Pistacia khinjuk, causing galls that are closely similar to the ones of G. utricularia, but are somewhat larger. It is not unimaginable that this first generation occurs on the European Pistacia species as well, but has been overlooked.
