Around the female, up to 1.5 mm large, sessile scales a circular elevation is formed on the bark of young shoots. When the infestation is heavy the shoots obtain a knobby, irregular shape. Female scales greyish white, in the centre the brown remnants of the exuvia of the previous moults.
