Above a node the leaf sheath is thickened, and mostly open at one side. At the inside some fusiform galls, each with a yellow larva or pupa.

Agropyron cristatum; Elymus caninus; Elytrigia intermedia & subsp. trichophora, juncea, repens.

E. repens is the most important one.

In some regions outside of Europe a pest on cereal crops (“barley jointworm”).
