The unilocular gall contained three larvae.

The wall consists of an extremely hard inner layer, and a soft outer layer that in the course of time disintegrates and disappears. After removal of the outer layer the inner layer appears to have a ribbed surface.

Smooth, globular bud gall, unilocular, solitary, its based surrounded by bud scales, with a wall consisting of a fleshy outer layer and a stone hard grooved inner layer. Galls from September till November; mature galls drop to the ground. Mainly on thin twigs on the boles of old trees.
