Quercus robur Dronten, Roggebotbos © Hans Jonkman. From the original description of the species appears a strong variation in the degree of suppression of the development of the acorn. Possibly this is an extreme example.

Unilocular, ovoid gall within an acorn the is abortive, and usually remains completed enclosed by the cupula. Multilocular galls have fallen victim to an inquiline.
