on Quercus, sexual generation

Neuroterus albipes reflexus on Quercus

All agamous galls on a young oak in Volker’s garden are of the type N. albipes reflexus. It may therefore be assumed that also these sexual galls, of the same tree and date, belong to the subspecies.

gall

like the agamous spangle gall of albipes, but the outline is three- or four-lobed; at the same time the margin is more strongly rolled inwards.

hostplants

Fagaceae, monophagous

Quercus petraea, pubescens, robur.

synonyms

Neuroterus laeviusculus reflexus.

notes

Melika, Csóka & Pujade-Villar (2000a) do not exclude the possibility of a distinct species, and the Fauna Europaea (2014) considers reflexus a valid subspecies, but most authors seemingly give their opinion by not mentioning the form.
