The sexual generation makes 2-3 mm long, oval galls on young shoots,on the scars of the bud scales that just have fallen off; commonly they are hidden by remaining bud scales. They thereby resemble the galls of Andricus quercuscortis, but differ because the galls are broadly attached, rather then on a narrow base.
