mine

Mine entirely like that of Heterarthrus cuneifrons: a large upper-surface (but virtually full depth) blotch, without a trace of an initial corridor, starting in the centre of the leaf. Full grown larval in a discoidal cocoon in the mine. In the end the cocoon drops out if the mine, taking a disk of upper epidermis with it.

host plants

Sapindaceae, narrowly oligophagous

Acer platanoides.

The only Heterarthrus on norway maple.

phenology

Fully developed mines in July.

BENELUX

Not known from the Benelux countries (Fauna Europaea, 2008).

distribution within Europe

Described from Georgia; within Europe known only from Sweden and Germany (Liston, 1995a); as demonstrated by the pictures also in Hungary.

synonyms

Phyllotoma aceris: Hering (1957a), Wahlgren, 1944a, 1951a.
