Noctuidae

Noctuidae

Owlets

An enormous moth family. Quite some species live as borers in stems and rootstocks, and a few of them start these activities with a mine in the leaves, before descending deeper into the plant (Godfrey, 1987a). The larva may have either 3 or 4 pairs of abdominal prolegs; in the first, rarest, case abominal segment 3 is without prolegs. Prolegs with the crochets in a semicircle.
