After living free for a short while at the underside of the rosette leaves the larva becomes a stem borer. Several stems are dealt with successively, frass is ejected through the entrance opening. Bored stems often strongly curve, they are stunted and parts above the feeding often die off. Two generations, pupation usually in the gallery.
