The lave live freely on the inflorescence, feeding on the developing fruits.

As is demonstrated by pictures of Rudolf Bryner in Lepiforum (2019), the larva also lives, like the one of E. gentianaena, also as a borer in the centre of the flower head of Dipsacus fullonum.
