Larvae under the bark of weakened trees and in the callus tissue around bark wounds. Preference for sun-exposed past of the stem. The infestations are recognizable by frass pile coming out from the margins of the bark wounds. According to Szabóky & Buschmann also in one-year old larch cones covered with webbing. Pupation in the spring, in a white cocoon close to the resin.
