The young larve lives in a female catkin, initially freely, later in a siklen gallery. If the larve is not yet fully fed [having fed on the smaller willow catkins?] it entirely empties a leaf bud. Pupation in a narrow, felt-like cocoon, mostly in a bark fissure.
