the first case, and the first fleck mine
Oviposition at the underside of a needle. At first the larva makes a small gallery, almost completely filled with frass. Soon the larva excises its case, in which it overwinters and continues feeding in spring. The way the case is enlarged is quite complex (see therefore Emmet ao, 1996a).
Occurrence on Pseudotsuga is only incidental.
Larvae are full fed around end May (Emmet ao, 1996a).
BE recorded (Phegea, 2010).
NE recorded (Kuchlein & de Vos, 1999a; Microlepidoptera.nl, 2010).
LUX not recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2010).
distribution within Europe
Form North Russia and Fennoscandia to the Pyrenees and Italy, and from Ireland to Romania (Fauna Europaea, 2010).
See Suire (1961a) and Emmet ao (1996a).
Common species, sometimes occurring in pest proportions (Perny, Weber ao).
