Coleophora praecursella Zeller, 1847

Lepidoptera, Coleophoridae

case

To judge by the illustration, the youth case is a rough, tubular leaf case of c. 6 mm. This is abandoned by the developing larva and replaced by the definite case: a slender, bivalved, spatulate leaf case of 11-13 mm with a mouth angle of 30-45°. Because the hostplant is densely silvery hairy, this initially applies to the case as well, but in the course of time the hairs are lost the case takes the resemblance of the case of C. alnifoliae.

hostplants

Asteraceae, narrowly monophagous

Pulicaria odora.

phenology

youth cases were found in late April.

distribution within Europe

Southern France, Italy, Sicily (Fauna Europaea, 2011).
