Coleophora proterella Wikström & Tabell, 2016
case (from Tabell & Wikström)
The larvae feed on the seeds, living in a 5-6 mm long, trivalved case of brown silk, covered with pappus fragments.
Larvae from late July to September or early October.
Not yet known from the Benelux-countries.
distribution within Europe
Currently known from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Hungary, Portugal and Spain; probably all Europe.
Long confused with C. virgaureae; both the cases and the moths are closely similar, and the larvae of the two species may occur together. The moths of proterella fly earlier (in northern Europe end of May till early July).
