Shining black bivalved sheath case of c. 9 mm long with a mouth angle of c. 20°, and a distinct ventral keel.

Very exceptional is an observation by Ben van As of two specimens on Vaccinium vitis-idaea (pictures above). On Erica arborea in the Mediterranean area lives the vicariating C. pulchripennella.

Larvae are full grown around mid-May (Emmet ea, 1996a).
