Plant Parasites of Europe

leafminers, galls and fungi

Vulcaniella cognatella

Vulcaniella cognatella Riedl, 1990

Not well known; probably the larva lives in a silken tube under a leaf, that from there is mined out (Koster & Sinev, 2003a).

Lamiaceae, monophagous

Salvia officinalis.

distribution within Europe

From the Ukraine to Sardinia and Greece (Fauna Europaea, 2009).

References in the literature to V. pomposella, where Salvia is mentioned as host plant, probably all refer to cognatella (Koster & Sinev, 2003a).

Hering (1957a, 1967a), Klimesch (1942a), Koster & Sinev (2003a), Szőcs (1977a).
