The larva makes a large blotch with many lobe-like extensions. In a later stage the larva makes a dense spinning at the underside of the leaf, adjacent to the midrib, in connection with the blotch. During feeding pauses the larva retreats into the spinning. Frass, as far as this is not ejected, in a broad stripe in the centre of the blotch. Often a number of mines in a leaf. Pupation external, in the spinning or in a leaf fold.
