The mine, that takes the full width of the narrow leaf, generally descends from the leaf tip down, but sometimes ascends from half way the leaf. Around April the larva starts a new, similar, mine in another leaf. Almost all frass is pushed into the oldest part of the mine. Pupation external, at the base of the mined leaf.

Deep yellow, 4-5 mm long; head almost colourless; sclerites of pronotum, prosternum and anal plate present, but very weakly chitinised (Steuer, 1978a).
